Objectives

(i) Formulation of all policy issues relating to science education below the tertiary level in the State.

(ii) Conduct of Competitive Entrance Examination for admission into the seven Schools of Science and Igbo-Elerin Grammar School (Science unit).

(iii) Monitoring of the Schools of Science to ensure qualitative teaching and good moral standards.

(iv) Procurement and distribution of science equipment and materials to the Public Secondary Schools in the State.

(v) Coordination and participation in Annual National Science competitions such as:

-STAN Annual Science Olympiad;

-NNPC Annual National Science Competition:

-Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists (JETS);

NIP Space Science Competition; 774 - Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award Competition;

(vi) Promote and harness Science and Technology Research for socio-economics development, job generation and wealth creation.

(vii) Promote practical applications of research findings to the development of commercial products.

(viii) Collaborate with higher and research institutions all over the country and abroad on scientific research.

(ix) Scoot harness and nurture potentialities for local technologies as vehicle for socio-economic development
